Our history

Nick and Mykel met at London Business School and bonded over their similar backgrounds, the trials/tribulations of learning rugby after a lifetime of watching/playing football, and their joint love of golf and skiing/snowboarding.

Nick spent the next 11 years working at McKinsey and Company in the London, Washington DC, and Boston offices. He worked across industries, specializing in Aerospace & Defense, Telecommunications, and the Public Sector; focusing on using digital technology, data, and analytics to drive operational productivity improvements in complex, asset and supply chain heavy organizations. It was in this time that Nick saw the increased performance differentiation that comes with digital/ops transformation, as productivity improvements increased profits for Fortune 500 organizations while the small businesses that were critical to the 2nd/3rd tier supply chain of Aerospace/Defense, Telecom, and the Public Sector industries were left behind. He spotted an opportunity to help these small businesses modernize and digitize.

Mykel spent the next 11 years at TVC Capital in San Diego, helping identify, fund, grow, and lead growth stage technology startups, leading to 15+ successful investments and over 4.0x MOIC for his investors. He focused mainly on healthcare and tech-enabled business services, and gained operational experience as a CFO and CEO of two of his investments. During this time Mykel gained first-hand experience with operational excellence in sales and marketing enabled growth and how technology was transforming organizations. He spotted a gap in the market with small family-owned businesses that were well run, but weren’t investing in growth or modernizing their operations using technology, and were missing out on the opportunities it created.

Artinia Group was born out of this shared realization that small businesses are incredibly important to the economy and employ ~48% of Americans, but are increasingly being left behind in the race to modernize, digitize, and improve productivity.
